Perennial plants are flowering plants that bloom once or more annually without re-planting. They are usually sold in temporary pots for eventual transplanting into the ground. The plants are easily handled, transported and planted in their permanent garden locations where they will root directly into the garden soil.
Easy Steps for Planting Perennials, Shrubs and Trees
1) Dig a hole at least twice the size of plant’s root structure. Set aside the soil from the hole.
2) Mix ½ of the native soil from the hole with equal portion of Gardner & Bloome Soil Building Compost.Mix a starter fertilizer such as Dr Earth® Organic 2 into this soil blend. (See fertilizer package for specific directions.)
3) Fill the hole with enough of the soil mixture to a depth that will support the plant and its root ball at the proper height.
4) Place the plant root down into the hole with the root mass resting on the bottom.
5) While holding the plant steady, back-fill the hole using more of the native soil/ Gardner & Bloome Soil Building Compost / starter fertilizer mixture.
6) Gently tamp the soil around the plant to eliminate air pockets.
7) Spread a 1 -2” layer of Gardner & Bloome Soil Building Compost as a mulch on the soil surface around the plant. Water thoroughly!
8) Water thoroughly!
