Manager's Corner

Celebrating Dennis
Making History - Celebrating 35 Years of which
Dennis Galt as been a valued Employee of the Grangetto’s Team

On March 21st, 1977, Dennis Galt started his career at Grangetto’s. Back then, Grangetto’s had 1 ½ stores, Escondido being the one store and a back room of a real estate office in Valley Center being the ½ store. The Valley Center location was run by Ed Grangetto Jr., with Dennis helping on occasion. In time, Grangetto’s opened up several locations: Fallbrook, Murrieta, Encinitas--and the ½ store in Valley Center now its own store. Dennis helped at all locations. He opened the Encinitas store as the Manager, managed Fallbrook temporarily, and continued to lend a hand in Valley Center when needed. The Murrieta operation was small and eventually Grangetto’s closed the small satellite store and consolidated into our present day Fallbrook location.

When Dennis started working for the company, the main source of business was the agricultural product mix of fertilizer and insecticides. Mr. Grangetto would drive around to all the ranches in the area and deliver weed oil. Dennis said that back in the early years of the company, 95% of the business was agricultural but with the constant rise of water prices, that percentage slowly has dwindled down. Dennis feels that Grangetto’s retail business to garden enthusiasts, homeowners, and landscapers is the larger percentage now.

In the 35 years that Dennis has been working at Grangetto’s, he has grown strong roots with the customers. The customers know they will always receive knowledgeable advice and friendly service from Dennis. Dennis feels that being bilingual in this industry has been an added bonus that has enabled them to service all of Grangetto’s customers.

Being at a company for 35 years is practically unheard of these days. So what has kept Dennis at Grangetto’s? “Three things,” Dennis says, “its ownership (the Grangettos), the customers, and the other employees that make coming to work every day enjoyable.”

Come on in and say hello to Dennis the next time you’re in Escondido!
