California Coastal Rose Society
"Gloves On Learning" workshops, sponsored by the California Coastal Rose Society, will continue on selected Saturday mornings in the Magee Rose Garden in Carlsbad as volunteers tend the variety of bushes which will still be blooming for several months. Topics and demonstrations for each session will relate to what is happening in the garden at that time including deadheading, feeding, watching for damage from pests or disease, the advantages and disadvantages of spraying, planting new bushes, and proper pruning techniques. Questions from participants are always welcome, and the workshops are free of charge. All that is needed are garden gloves, a pair of pruning clippers, and the desire to learn more about roses! Dates for the fall sessions are October 4 and November 1. Each session begins at 9:00 a.m. and concludes at approximately 10:30 a.m.
The opportunity to learn and help at Magee Garden is open to beginners interested in learning to grow roses in addition to experienced rose growers who have expertise to share and want to help maintain the roses. The garden is located at the corner of Beech Avenue and Garfield Street in Carlsbad. Questions about the workshops can be answered by contacting the garden director at 760-804-0875.
Additional information about Gloves On Learning, membership in CCRS, meeting dates and topics, and other information on growing roses can also be accessed on the organization’s website at www.californiacoastalrose.com. The informative content is enhanced with beautiful floral photography of roses grown by members of the group. Readers can also access a list of items that will be included in the auction of rare and unusual roses which is an annual event sponsored by the organization. The auction this year is planned for the evening of November 18th.
