Help with Drought Restrictions from the Water Conservation Garden

The Water Conservation Garden at Cuyamaca College has plenty of tools to help people deal with impending water restrictions.

On June 1, the City of San Diego’s mandatory water restrictions go into effect. http://www.sandiego.gov/water/conservation/drought/droughtlevels2.shtml

By July 1, most other water districts in San Diego County will be implementing restrictions. http://www.sdcwa.org/manage/droughtordinance_agencies.phtml

The Garden is open Monday-Sunday from 9am to 4pm, and on Wednesdays until 7pm through the summer. It offers the following tools:

  • Five acres of educational exhibits, with beautiful displays of hundreds of water smart plants, as well as exhibits and signage covering design, mulching, composting, and irrigation.
  • Guided tours every Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m.
  • Tours by appointment.
  • A “Water Smart Pipeline” on Tuesday mornings from 8:30-12:00 on Tuesday mornings and 1:00-4:30 on Thursday afternoons (1-866-962-7021 ext. 17).
  • How-to” on site classes such as “Bye Bye Grass”, “Toss the Turf”, “Ask the Designer, “Ask the Horticulturist”, and “H2o 911.”
  • Informational brochures, such as the “Nifty 50” water smart plants for this region.
  • An informative web site at www.thegarden.org.

Further information is available on the web site or at 619-660-0614 ext.10.
