WHAT: A free, regional, family oriented, festival and parade

WHEN: Saturday September 9, 2006 Festival 9:30am - 5pm Parade at 9:30amam

Festival – Beautiful, historic Grape Day Park, 321 N. Broadway, Escondido 92025
Parade – Grand Avenue from Escondido Blvd to Juniper

WHO:
Organized by, and benefiting, the Escondido History Center
Sponsors include: San Diego Union Tribune, Jimbo’s Naturally!, Baker Electric, 1st Centennial Bank, San Diego National Bank, Community National Bank (to date)

WHY:

  • Community celebration
  • Revival of historic 1908-1950 festival and parade
  • Benefits Escondido History Center, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization

  • 1950s personality lookalike contest
  • Sock hop dance contest

** PARADE 2006 THEME is "FIFTIES FUN" **

DETAILS:

  • Whimsical parade encourages entries to have 1950s fun with grapes, raisins, wine or
    purple – for example wear a poodle skirt decorated with grapes, imagine Elvis dressed in purple, or remember Lucy stomping grapes
  • Marching bands, floats, walking groups, equestrians, vintage vehicles, dignitaries

HONORING:

  • Grape Day King & Queen, Dr. William and Lorraine Boyce, community doctor and
    Escondido’s first female mayor
  • Parade Grand Marshall, James Ahler, long time EUHS coach and administrator
