Learn how to grow and care for fabulous roses along the coast. Friar James Lockman, ofm, executive director of Mission San Luis Rey and horticulturist, will present an educational overview of his favorite “Top Ten Roses” which may be successfully grown in the coastal climate and share his secrets for pruning beautifully shaped roses bushes. Kevin Grangetto of Grangetto's Farm & Garden Supply (www.grangettosnews.com) in Fallbrook will speak about botanical control and provide decollate snails for viewing. Enter the inner sanctum and view the friars’ award-winning rose garden while sampling various Mission wines. Learn about the care and nurturing of roses and have an opportunity to win some exciting raffle prizes. What a wonderful way to spend a summer afternoon. In conjunction with the wine tasting event, Executive Director Friar James Lockman, ofm, will lead his popular “Horticultural Tour” of the Mission from 2-4 PM. The tour includes areas not generally accessible to the public such as the Meditation gardens, the Friars’ Garden, and the Historic Well House. Immediately following, tour participants may partake in the wine tasting event. Cost is: $7 for the tour only; $10 for presentation and wine tasting (4 samples) or $15 for both.
