Grangetto's Gardening Tips for July

•  Regular deep watering is the most important task this month. The best time to apply water is early morning. Use Dramm Water Wands to wash and remove dust and/ or pest from foliage on trees, shrubs and perennials.

•  Organic Gardner and Bloome Soil Building Compost amends soil or can be used as a mulch to retain moisture and assist with weed control.

•  Side-dress vegetable gardens this month with an organic fertilizer such as Dr. Earth Tomato, Vegetable and Herb Fertilizer. Use Green Light Spinosad or Monterey Garden Insect Spray as an organic insect control.

•  Roses need regular watering and close observation for insects and fungus. Green Light Rose Defense contains neem oil, derived from the neem tree, and gives protection from both.

•  Continue deep watering citrus and avocado trees. Allowing them to dry out can result in a considerable amount of fruit drop. Fertilize citrus with Triple Pro 15-15-15 and avocados with Hydro Prill 15-15-15 to avoid tip burn.

•  Consistent care is the key to a strong healthy lawn. Fertilize every 4-6 weeks with Best Turf Supreme 16-6-8. Water immediately after application. Use Monterey Spurge Power to control broadleaf weeds and Sevin Lawn Insect Granules to kill ants and other insects..

•  Ants are on the move with warmer weather. Terro Liquid Ant Baits provide either indoor or outdoor control or use Sevin Lawn Insect Granules on lawns, ornamentals and around homes.

•  Adjust timers on irrigation sprinklers this month. Repair, replace and/ or add new lines to use water more efficiently. Grangetto’s has knowledgeable professionals at each location to assist with irrigation questions and selection.
