Gardening Tips for July
Regular deep watering is the most important task this month. For slow deep watering use the Swan Soaker Hose. You’ll use up to 70% less water with a soaker hose.
Organic Gardner and Bloome Soil Building Compost amends soil or can be used as a mulch to retain moisture and assist with weed control. Use at least 4 inches of mulch.

Side dress vegetable gardens this month with an organic fertilizer such as Dr. Earth Tomato, Vegetable and Herb Fertilizer. For worms use Green Light Spinosad or Safer Caterpillar Killer as an organic insect control.
Roses need regular watering and close observation for insects and fungus. Green Light Rose Defense contains neem oil, derived from the neem tree, and gives protection from both. Bayer Insect, Disease and Mite Control is another solution to summer rose problems.
Continue deep watering citrus and avocado trees. Allowing them to dry out can result in considerable fruit drop. Fertilize citrus with Best Triple Pro 15-15-15 and avocados with Yara Prilled 15-15-15 to avoid tip burn.
Ants are on the move with warmer weather. Terro Liquid Ant Baits provide either indoor or outdoor control, or use Spectracide Triazicide on lawns, ornamentals and around homes. For indoor control use Bayer Home Pest Control. It’s ready-to-use and will give 9 month protection indoors

Adjust timers on irrigation sprinklers this month. Repair, replace and add new lines to use water more efficiently. Grangetto’s has knowledgeable professionals at each location to assist with irrigation questions and selection. For lower water use, replace heads with Hunter MP Rotators. |
